All Battlefield Vision tours are personally led by me, Mike St Maur Sheil. My career as a photographer has spanned 40 years working as a photo-journalist in over 60 countries around the world for clients such as the National Geographic, the BBC, the Red Cross and Time-Life Books and in 2002 I was honoured with a World Press Photo Award (a photographic "Oscar") for my work on child trafficking in West Africa.

In 2006 I began a project documenting the fields of battle of the 1914-1918 Western Fronts and has subsequently published two books and mounted three major international exhibitions and you can see this work at

I am a badged member of the International Guild of Battlefield Guides and one of the first people to qualify for recognition as a Battlefield Guide by the European Travel Operator's Association. In addition I am a member of the British Commission for Military History. I think that the combination of being an experienced photographer as well as a qualified battlefield guide enables me to present a unique combination of historical and topographical knowledge of some of the most significant and emotionally charged landscapes in the world will ensure that your Battlefield Vision holiday will be quite like any other landscape photography course you have experienced.
